Africa’s biggest food and hospitality platform set to capitalise on booming hotel and tourism sector with buyers from across the continent and suppliers from around the world

Leading hospitality suppliers from around the world will be in Johannesburg for the inaugural The Hotel Show Africa, which will take place from June 25 to 27.

The Hotel Show Africa 2017 will be co-located with the continent’s long-established food and beverage show Africa’s Big 7, making this the biggest food and hospitality platform ever, both part of Retail & Hospitality Week at The Gallagher Conference Centre.

“The Hotel Show Africa brings a new focus to the hospitality industry,” says Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, CEO of the Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa (FEDHASA), which is a strategic partner for The Hotel Show.

The new event is adapted for the African market and based on international organiser dmg events MEA’s highly successful The Hotel Show Dubai.

Tshivhengwa said: “A forum such as this brings a wealth of opportunity for owners, managers and suppliers in terms of connecting with each other, meeting new contacts, generating business but also for gaining essential insight and knowledge share, and FEDHASA is pleased to be a part of it.”

The hospitality sector is a key growth target for governments across sub-Saharan Africa and the continent has almost 30,000 new rooms under construction at 159 hotels this year.

Top national and international suppliers have signed up to showcase hospitality products for restaurants, cafes, bars and hotels, right through to food & beverage service outlets.

These include:

Build and security, three of the world leaders: Access Control Technologies, Dormakaba and Assa Abloy. In the bedroom, top US mattress supplier Restonic will be at the show alongside Belgotex, which is Africa’s leading flooring company, established on four continents.

Blind Rage, promises the biggest selection of window dressings in the country, while leading furniture manufacturer Calgan Recliners will also be at the show. Origin Fitness brings the world’s top gym equipment.

The Vision Conference runs for the full three days of the show with a strong line up of key industry speakers.

Christine Davidson, Vice President of organiser dmg events says: “We are very excited to bring a globally recognised brand to the Africa hospitality market and have been working closely with the industry to ensure the show meets the needs of all hospitality professionals.  Most importantly this event focusses on how to improve guest experiences, enable closer customer engagement and increase bookings and revenue.

“So whether you own, run or operate a small, medium or large hotel, restaurant, café etc, you will come away from the event with tangible ideas, expert advice and inspiration that will ultimately help you grow your business.”

The Hotel Show 2017 is part of Retail & Hospitality Week 2017 at The Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 25 to 27.

  • Innovative SA building system to exhibit in the Netherlands

Innovative SA building system to exhibit in the Netherlands

Due to the success the Design Indaba team has had with its two ‘Africa is Now’ exhibitions, they were approached to curate a segment on African design for an inaugural exhibition taking place in August at a new design museum called Cube, in Kerkrade in the Netherlands.

The exhibition will showcase the theme ‘Design for a better world | Innovations for people’. The exhibition’s objective is to raise an awareness of design and to pass on its significance. The curators aim to do this by gathering unique examples of the most relevant innovations worldwide from contributing museums such as the Cooper Hewitt in New York, Design Museum Taiwan, Powerhouse Australia, Mind Museum Manila, Design Museum London and, of course, Design Indaba.

One of the projects selected for the opening exhibition of Cube was the Moladi building system. To change the way low-cost housing is built, Moladi developed a system that constitutes the use of a removable, reusable, recyclable and lightweight plastic formwork mould, which is filled with an aerated mortar to form the wall structure of a house in as little as one day.

The process involves creating a mould in the form of the complete house. This wall mould is then filled with an aerated form of mortar. The process is faster than traditional methods of construction and results in a better-quality low-cost house.

Each set of the Moladi formwork panels can be re-used 50 times making the technology cost-effective due to its repetitive application scheme, reducing the cost of construction and transportation significantly.

The Moladi system won the Design for Development award of the South African Bureau of Standards Design Institute in 1997.

Moladi was exhibited at Design Indaba Expo as part of the ‘Africa is Now Exhibition’ under the theme ‘Africa is Urban’.

A DATE WITH INNOVATION: the stage is set for change…

  • Inspire 2014! 10-12 July 2014 - Gallagher Convention Centre :: Furniture + Decor + Design :: You're Invited…

With little over two months to go to what promises to be the most exciting trade show the country has seen, things keep gaining momentum. The Inspire trade show, which will be showcasing: Furniture, décor and design as well as up and coming manufacturers and forward thinking retail solutions, like touch screen technology. This show is a must for the retail, hospitality as well as design sector, including architects and designers, to come and source new and interesting products. Although the focus is on local supply and manufacture there will be some specialised agents with world-class international products also exhibiting.

There are still a few stands left, across the various categories for manufacturers that would like to exhibit, but these too are filling up quickly. The show will boast high-end home grown design talent with the likes of Backyard Studio, Studio Number 19, Meyer von Wielligh, Emerging Creative’s, Head On Design and the incredible SNAPP Designs. The show also boasts some South African legends such as Carrol Boyes and Ronel Jordaan Designs, both of which have had huge success internationally and have also been great ambassadors for SA design.

A huge focus of the show, as the name suggests will be to inspire the trade to find new and amazing products as we often see the continual use of the same products when there is so much new and fresh design currently happening. This is according to Dave Nemeth, who is regarded by many as a leader in trend forecasting and innovative business and retail consulting, he is currently consulting to the Inspire group. Nemeth believes that the Show will be the launchpad for businesses wanting to expand into Africa, which in itself is one of the largest global initiatives at the moment. The response from these key players in these African countries registering to visit has been phenomenal.

The show will also feature some excellent talks by leading professionals, which will be very relevant to the current state of business as well as consumers current attitudes.

Further collaborations with the likes of SAA, has insured discounted rates for people outside of Gauteng's borders to visit the show, with their buying and design teams.
